We (the Portuguese people) like to complain a lot about the cold, but the truth is that in December we rarely get below 10\u00ba C \/ 50\u00ba F during the day and absolutely no snow <em>ever<\/em> (thanks God, or I&#8217;d migrate to another country).<br>Therefore, there is no excuse for not planning a trip during Winter in Porto, and on this article you&#8217;ll discover the best things to do in the city even if it&#8217;s rainy and (moderately) cold. Don&#8217;t worry, I got you covered \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to do during Winter in Porto?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The answer is&#8230; shopping malls! \ud83d\ude00 (I AM KIDDING, ok? Whether you&#8217;re a wine connoisseur or a humble appreciator, you should go there because a visit to a Port wine lodge is much more than about wine. It&#8217;s about an industry that shapes an entire Portuguese region, that tells a lot about our history and hence is worth to know.<br>Usually a visit to a Port wine lodge includes a guided tour in the lodge itself, where you&#8217;ll hear about the production process of the famous wine and see the beautiful barrels, followed by a wine tasting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are many, many Port Wine lodges. These are my recommendations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.getyourguide.co.uk\/graham-s-port-lodge-l158430\/porto-graham-s-port-lodge-tour-with-tastings-t393340\/?partner_id=H93B56T&amp;cmp=winter-porto\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">Graham\u2019s<\/a> has by far the best wine tour. It is well structured and the guides are very knowledgeable. At the end, you enjoy a Port Wine tasting in a lovely room with a view over the Luiz I bridge.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.getyourguide.co.uk\/porto-l151\/ingresso-tour-guiado-e-degustaes-nas-adegas-de-clem-t175041\/?partner_id=H93B56T&amp;cmp=winter-porto\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">Cal\u00e9m\u2019s<\/a> lodge is mostly aimed at families as it features an interactive museum with fun activities for all ages. I am not the biggest fan of its tasting room. The other room where they have a live Fado show, on the other hand, is more welcoming and cosier. The guided tour is relatively quick but informative and you will have the opportunity to visit fabulous spaces, namely the Arab Hall. But the <a href=\"http:\/\/portoalities.com\/best-museums-porto\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Serralves Foundation<\/a> is a very important cultural complex, as it encompasses the contemporary art museum, the Manoel de Oliveira Cinema House, wonderful gardens, a spacious restaurant and a wonderful shop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The gardens are always worth visiting (stop complaining and put on your wellies, it&#8217;s not that cold!), as well as a library with &#8220;hanging tears&#8221;, which are very cute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As I\u2019m forward thinking, I like to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.getyourguide.co.uk\/porto-l151\/porto-ingresso-museu-e-parque-de-serralves-t66545\/?partner_id=H93B56T&amp;cmp=winter-porto\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">buy the online ticket for the Serralves Foundation<\/a>, but if you&#8217;re on a budget, you can always just visit the store and the library, which are free \ud83d\ude1b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tickets to Serralves Foundation<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Some people complain that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.getyourguide.com\/porto-l151\/porto-serralves-museum-park-entrance-ticket-t66545\/?partner_id=H93B56T&amp;cmp=winter-porto\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">ticket to Serralves<\/a> is expensive (20\u20ac), but honestly I really think you get the value for the money, given all the spaces that I have just described \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Visit one of the stunning <a href=\"http:\/\/portoalities.com\/most-beautiful-churches-porto\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">churches of Porto<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full alignnone wp-image-11947\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"668\" height=\"455\" src=\"http:\/\/portoalities.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/clerigos-church-porto.jpg\" alt=\"clerigos church porto\" class=\"wp-image-49880\" srcset=\"https:\/\/portoalities.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/clerigos-church-porto.jpg 668w, https:\/\/portoalities.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/clerigos-church-porto-300x204.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 668px) 100vw, 668px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">True story. It&#8217;s gorgeous, the Cl\u00e9rigos church!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There are many churches in Porto (36, to be precise), but in my opinion there are three that easily stand out:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiqets.com\/pt\/atracoes-porto-c76573\/bilhetes-para-se-catedral-do-porto-p1014937\/?partner=portoalities_unipessoal_lda&amp;tq_campaign=winter-porto\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">cathedral of Porto<\/a>&nbsp;&#8211; located precisely where the city started to be founded many centuries ago. It&#8217;s free of charge.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Cl\u00e9rigos church &#8211; it&#8217;s simply stunning, in its pink marble and golden leaf tones, and plenty of natural light. The church is free of charge. You should try to get there at noon, as it has a free pipe organ concert every day. It&#8217;s superb!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The St Francis Church &#8211; the only gothic building left in Porto. It&#8217;s a remarkable example of gothic structure combined with a baroque decor. You can also visit the catacombs &#8211; don&#8217;t forget to look down and see all the skeletons down below!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tickets to my favourite churches of Porto<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiqets.com\/pt\/atracoes-porto-c76573\/bilhetes-para-se-catedral-do-porto-p1014937\/?partner=portoalities_unipessoal_lda&amp;tq_campaign=winter-porto\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">cathedral of Porto<\/a>: 3\u20ac<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the St Francis church: 9\u20ac (it includes the ticket to the catacombs as well as the museum)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the Cl\u00e9rigos church: free of charge.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Watch a concert at Casa da M\u00fasica<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-full wp-image-11957\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/casa-musica-porto-concert.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11957\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u00a9 Casa da M\u00fasica<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/portoalities.com\/5-things-dont-know-casa-da-musica-porto\/\">Casa da M\u00fasica<\/a>, designed by the Dutch architect Rem Koollhaas, it&#8217;s a perfect combination between traditional elements (those blue tiles!) contemporary architecture. In my opinion you should try to watch a concert there as the acoustic is superb. Made with a baguette instead of bread rolls (it makes all the difference!) and served with a syrup consisting of eggs, jam, raisins, walnuts and pine nuts, they are a real treat on a rainy day. Please note that I specifically wrote <em>raining<\/em>, not cold. Yes, the boats have a covered deck, but it&#8217;s very uncomfortable to stay inside and you&#8217;ll miss most of the views, which is the main reason to take this cruise anyway.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Don&#8217;t cross the upper deck of <a href=\"http:\/\/portoalities.com\/discover-porto-bridges\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Luiz I bridge<\/a> &#8211; yes, it&#8217;s super cute on warm days, but up there it&#8217;s VERY windy and it can be a bit scary during Winter days.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Don&#8217;t go all Indiana-Jones-like trying to take National Geographic pictures on Felgueiras lighthouse. It&#8217;s dangerous, people.
