Don\u2019t be surprised if you take too long staring at the stunning 20,000 blue azulejo tiles<\/a> on the interior walls. But the station is more than just aesthetic, it holds an important part of Porto\u2019s story<\/a>.
When visiting the station, you\u2019ll be close to Porto\u2019s cathedral, Rua das Flores street (gift stores, bookstores, restaurants, bars…etc), the beautiful Cl\u00e9rigos Tower<\/a>, the astonishing twin churches<\/a> (Carmo and Carmelitas) and much more. You\u2019ll also be close to the Pra\u00e7a da Batalha, a square surrounded by amazing architecture.

Another option is to combine the Fado show with a visit & tasting at a Port wine cellar. You have to face 225 to get there but oh boy, it is totally worth it! As it is a very popular spot, it is wise to get the online ticket to the Cl\u00e9rigos tower<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\nNearby you can also enjoy Miradouro da Vit\u00f3ria<\/a>. (the view is not nearly as incredible, but it is free of charge).<\/p>\n\n\n\nBoth spots are near the Stock Exchange Palace, the stunning gothic church of S\u00e3o Francisco, S\u00e3o Bento station and many other important monuments<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\nHow to get there: the subway station S\u00e3o Bento is a 10 minutes walking distance.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\nDive into the coffee culture at the most famous avenue in Porto<\/h3>\n\n\n\nAvenida dos Aliados, 85-89 | Porto<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re a coffee lover like us, you don\u2019t want to miss the opportunity of immersing yourself in the local culture where people sit down, take a moment and truly enjoy their coffee.
But don\u2019t fall right into the charming, yet expensive trap of the Majestic Caf\u00e9<\/a>, head out to Caf\u00e9 Guarany instead. This historic Caf\u00e9 which opened in 1933 was frequented by businessmen and liberal professionals at the time thanks to its privileged location at the Avenida dos Aliados, the most important avenue in the city. There, you\u2019ll find the Liberdade Square which has the King Pedro IV monument<\/a>, an important figure in Porto during the civil war. There is also the stunning City Hall building and many art deco architecture<\/a> to admire.

Oficina serves delicious food which is perfectly paired with wine.<\/span>
Right in front of the restaurant, you\u2019ll find Centro Comercial Miguel Bombarda which has little stores that sells unique items ideal for gifts or souvenirs (jewelry, azulejos tiles, etc). <\/span>
You can also stop by interesting streets nearby like Rua do Ros\u00e1rio where you\u2019ll see cute local stores with unique stock (like CRU Cowork and Patch Lifestyle Concept Store). There\u2019s also Rua de Cedofeita street where you\u2019ll find Gelataria do Porto, one of <\/span>the best ice creams in Porto<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>

When you\u2019re in Porto for a few hours, getting gifts at the airport is tempting, but there are better options to save time and money. One example is Rua da Concei\u00e7\u00e3o street where you can find a <\/span>wine store<\/span><\/a> (Universo Carmim), a <\/span>record store<\/span><\/a> (Porto Calling) and a <\/span>clothing store<\/span><\/a> with decor & accessories store (Mercado 28). <\/span>
I also recommend you stop at Rua de Miguel Bombarda to check out stores like Collectiva (contemporary jewelry), \u00d3! Galer\u00eda (art) and Materia Prima (record store). <\/span>
But it doesn\u2019t stop there, you have Travessa de Cedofeita street with more shops including Cora\u00e7\u00e3o Alecrim (environmentally-cautious clothing), Adorna Cora\u00e7\u00f5es (photography and contemporary jewelry) and Collectus (vintage things including games, photos, decor items…etc).<\/span>

Luckily, you won\u2019t go too far to find Catraio, a craft beer pub, because it\u2019s located in one of <\/span>the most famous streets in Porto<\/span><\/a>. They have more than 130 beer varieties with Portuguese beers like Sovina, Burguesa, Letra, Passarola and Mirandum. <\/span>
In the vicinity, you\u2019ll find the Carlos Alberto Square (named after <\/span>an Italian king who was exiled to Porto<\/span><\/a>) with a beautiful monument dedicated to the Portuguese troops killed in WWI. You\u2019ll also be close to Avenida dos Aliados and the Lion Fountain in front of the Rectory of the University of Porto – a perfect scene for a panoramic photo.<\/span>

If you love nature, but you\u2019re only in Porto for a few hours, you can visit one of <\/span>the best gardens in Porto<\/span><\/a>. Our recommendation is the <\/span>Crystal Palace gardens,<\/span><\/a> which might be a bit of a walk, but it\u2019s worth it. Inside, you\u2019ll see a great view of the river. There is also water streams, fountains and beautiful greenery.<\/span>
You won\u2019t be too far from the <\/span>Lello Library<\/span><\/a> (13 minutes walking distance), Cl\u00e9rigos Tower, the twin churches (Carmo and Carmelitas), S\u00e3o Bento station and more.<\/span>
How to get there: the subway station Casa da M\u00fasica is a 20 minutes walking distance. So we recommend you take a walk in the Ribeira area where you\u2019ll find street performers and vendors. Then you can cross the breathtaking <\/span>Luiz I bridge<\/span><\/a> to Gaia. There, you get to enjoy the amazing view of Porto and see the <\/span>rabelo boats<\/span><\/a> which were used for wine transportation.<\/span>
This is a good opportunity to take the Gaia cable car. The trip is around 5 minutes long and with a distance of 600 meters, the view of Porto is unforgettable.<\/span>

Some Portuguese goodness waiting for you at Confeitaria Tavi.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\nWhen you\u2019re in Porto for a few hours and you wish to be near the beach, you should visit the <\/span>Foz<\/span><\/a> neighborhood where Tavi is located. Tavi is a bakery that serves a great selection of traditional desserts with a great view of the Atlantic ocean.<\/span>
In Foz, you can also take a <\/span>romantic<\/span><\/a> walk along the seashore, try some delicious <\/span>caipirinha<\/span><\/i> from CaipiCompany or ride the <\/span>historic tram<\/span><\/a> which will take you back to Porto in no time (just pay attention to the schedule so you\u2019re not stuck waiting). This is the furthest\u00a0point we’ve mentioned. To get there faster, take tram Line 1 from in front of the Stock Exchange Palace.<\/span>
