Where can you go to take a break from all of it?<br>Even though Porto is the 2nd largest city in Portugal, it is remarkably good at transforming from a city full of movement, music and laughter into a city of complete tranquility.There are amazing <a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/portoalities.com\/avoid-tourists-downtown-porto\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1544620330981000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFI11m7xnvZ-9T_VDAYvqB-qefJ5Q\" href=\"http:\/\/portoalities.com\/avoid-tourists-downtown-porto\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">places to go if you want to &#8216;avoid&#8217; tourists<\/a> or to simply enjoy a relaxing day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Here are the best spots for relaxing in Porto:<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Take a walk in Foz<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-full wp-image-16513\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/relaxing-beach-porto.jpg\" alt=\"relaxing beach porto\" class=\"wp-image-16513\"\/><figcaption>\u00a9 Tina Silva<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I am not very fond of water (probably because I almost drowned twice during my childhood) and hence I cannot recall the last time I have enjoyed the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/portoalities.com\/the-best-beaches-in-porto-and-swimming-pools\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">best beaches of Porto<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Interestingly enough, when I think about my favourite places for relaxing in Porto I immediately think about <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/portoalities.com\/what-to-do-in-foz\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Foz, a picturesque neighborhood<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by the Atlantic Ocean.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the high season, when I conduct <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/portoalities.com\/private-tour\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">private tours in Porto<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> practically every day, I really enjoy watching the sunset in Foz. Sometimes, and after walking for 2km or so, I have dinner at one of the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/portoalities.com\/best-restaurants-in-foz\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">best restaurants<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the neighborhood \u2013 usually Sushiaria (a fabulous sushi place at very reasonable prices) or at Tenta\u00e7\u00f5es no Prato (a restaurant serving traditional Portuguese food).<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you are visiting the city for the first time, I suggest you to photograph the Felgueiras\u2019 lighthouse, which has been <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalgeographic.com\/photography\/photo-of-the-day\/2015\/10\/waves-lighthouse-portugal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">featured on National Geographic<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How to get there: take the tram 1 and get out at the terminal.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/oportodosgatos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"><b>Read a book at a Cat Caf\u00e9<\/b><\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Avenida de Rodrigues de Freitas, 93-95 | Porto<\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-full wp-image-16517\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/relaxing-reading-places-porto-cat-coffee-shop.jpg\" alt=\"relaxing reading places porto cat coffee shop\" class=\"wp-image-16517\"\/><figcaption>\u00a9 Evas\u00f5es<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When I have time for relaxing in Porto I like to take a good book and quietly enjoy my reading at one of the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/portoalities.com\/what-are-the-best-cafes-to-work-in-porto\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">best coffee shops<\/span><\/a> in the city. <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lately, one of my favourite spots is O Porto dos Gatos, which is growing increasingly popular because it is the only cat caf\u00e9 in the city \ud83d\ude42 <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The cafe is very cozy, with a main room decorated with an unpretentious vintage style and a small patio on the backyard. If you are not a cat person do not worry, because the animals are in a separated small glass room or wandering around in the patio, but not in the main room.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The food, comforting and rather affordable compared to the increasingly touristy places that flourish every day in Downtown Porto, is entirely vegan (which I appreciate since I do not cook meat nor fish at home).<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last but not least, by going to Porto dos Gatos you are contributing to animal welfare as the revenues are used to support the in-house cats, which are all up for adoption.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How to get there: The subway station 24 Agosto is 10 minutes walking distance from the cat caf\u00e9.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Visit an exhibition at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.getyourguide.com\/porto-l151\/porto-serralves-museum-park-entrance-ticket-t66545\/?partner_id=H93B56T&amp;cmp=spots-for-relaxing-porto\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">Serralves\u2019 contemporary museum<\/a><\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rua Dom Jo\u00e3o de Castro, 210 | Porto<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-full wp-image-16519\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/serralves-museum-contemporary-art-porto.jpg\" alt=\"serralves museum contemporary art porto\" class=\"wp-image-16519\"\/><figcaption>\u00a9 Serralves.pt<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.getyourguide.com\/porto-l151\/porto-serralves-museum-park-entrance-ticket-t66545\/?partner_id=H93B56T&amp;cmp=spots-for-relaxing-porto\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">Serralves\u2019 contemporary museum<\/a> is my favourite place in the city as it masterfully combines a contemporary art museum designed by the famous <a href=\"http:\/\/portoalities.com\/10-memorable-buildings-of-the-arquitect-siza-vieira-in-porto\/\">Portuguese architect \u00c1lvaro Siza Vieira<\/a>, a stunning garden, a caf\u00e9, a buffet restaurant and two tempting concept stores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I usually visit the museum first and, if the weather all allows it, I go for a walk in the gardens. These gardens are nothing short of spectacular as they have been carefully designed by the paisagist Jacques Gr\u00e9ber in a mildly Art Deco, neo classic style, influenced by French gardens of the 17th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><i>How to get there: take one of the following buses: 201 S\u00e1 da Bandeira &gt; Viso | 203 Marqu\u00eas &gt; Castelo do Queijo | 502 Bolh\u00e3o &gt; Matosinhos Mercado | 504 Boavista &gt; Norteshopping.&nbsp;<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Go for a walk in the City Park<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Estrada Interior da Circunvala\u00e7\u00e3o | Porto<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-full wp-image-16516\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/relaxing-porto-parque-cidade.jpg\" alt=\"relaxing porto parque cidade\" class=\"wp-image-16516\"\/><figcaption>\u00a9 Wiki Commons<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parque da Cidade, with its 83 hectares, is the largest city park in Portugal. But the easiest way is to take the bus 502 from Bolh\u00e3o subway station or Casa da M\u00fasica subway station and stop at Pr. Cid. Salvador. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Visit Cantinho das Arom\u00e1ticas<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rua do Meiral, 508 | Vila Nova de Gaia<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-full wp-image-16515\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/relaxing-porto-organic-farm.jpg\" alt=\"relaxing porto organic farm\" class=\"wp-image-16515\"\/><figcaption>\u00a9 Cantinho das Arom\u00e1ticas<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cantinho das Arom\u00e1ticas is a certified organic farming company focused on producing delicious herbs, including herbal teas and condiments to use in your kitchen.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I included Cantinho das Arom\u00e1ticas on this list of the best spots for relaxing in Porto because you can enjoy a relaxed walk on its plantations before heading to the grocery store where you can buy not only its products but also beauty products, organic food &amp; wine and even books about organic agriculture.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the side there is a small greenhouse which is where I buy all the aromatic plants that I use in my kitchen.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How to get there: take the bus 902 at Casa da M\u00fasica and get off at the stop 4 Caminhos &#8211; go down Rua do Meiral and after walking 500m you will find Cantinho das Arom\u00e1ticas on your right-hand side.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Visit Parque Biol\u00f3gico de Gaia<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rua Cunha, 152 | Avintes<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone wp-image-16506 size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/biological-educational-park-porto.jpg\" alt=\"biological educational park porto\" class=\"wp-image-16506\"\/><figcaption>\u00a9 V\u00edtor Ribeiro<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parque Biol\u00f3gico de Gaia (a biological park located across the Douro river) is a well-kept <\/span>secret from foreigners, but it certainly comes to mind when searching for the best spots for relaxing in Porto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is not only a protected reserve that harbors an enormous amount <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of fauna and flora along its 34 hectares, recreating its natural habitat, but it also presents the opportunity to learn along the way.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has a pedestrian path with around 3 km, allowing you to explore several natural habitats as well as route mills, rural houses, granaries, oak groves, pine forests, lakes, the Febros river, and numerous display cases with information about the surroundings and plant identification plates. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Therefore it is a great activity for <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/portoalities.com\/top-things-to-do-in-porto-with-children\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">families with kids<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (much better than going to the Zoo de Santo In\u00e1cio to be honest!) and for couples looking for a romantic moment.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How to get there: The most practical way is to drive to the park. If you need to take a public transport, go to Pra\u00e7a da Batalha, in Downtown Porto, take a bus from MGC Transportes to LEVER \/ MOSTEIR\u00d3 \/ CANEDO or Crestuma. Ask the driver to leave you at Gaia Biological Park.&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Appreciate the view from Cais de Gaia<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-full wp-image-16514\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/relaxing-porto-cais-gaia.jpg\" alt=\"relaxing porto cais gaia\" class=\"wp-image-16514\"\/><figcaption>\u00a9 Pestana Collection Hotels<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We like to mock the people of Gaia (the city just across the Douro river) saying that the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/portoalities.com\/why-is-there-a-rivalry-between-porto-and-gaia\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">only good thing that Gaia has is the view towards Porto<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (actually, I have been heavily insulted by people who read that article and couldn\u2019t take a joke. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sigh<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is not quite true, obviously, because the best <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/portoalities.com\/best-port-wine-lodges-porto\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Port wine lodges<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are located in Gaia. Moreover, right in front of the wine lodges there is a large walkway for carefree walks where you can make some low budget souvenirs\u2019 shopping. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Right across the street is Mercado Beira Rio, where you can enjoy a light meal at one of the food stalls. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For a special occasion I highly recommend you to go for a glass of wine and a cheese board at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.pt\/Restaurant_Review-g580268-d15147345-Reviews-17_56_Enoteca-Vila_Nova_de_Gaia_Porto_District_Northern_Portugal.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enoteca 17.56<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as it is one of my favourite classy wine bars in town \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How to get there:
