If you just want to get an overall idea of Portuguese food, I recommend you to join a food tour in Porto<\/a>. You will be tasting some of the most traditional things in Porto, like francesinha, chicken piri piri and pasteis de nata<\/em>, while meeting new people. It’s AWESOME \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you want my suggestion, make a reservation for dinner and start your evening sipping a beer at the viewpoint of the Virtudes<\/a>, which is one of the most beautiful spots of Porto and very close by to this tavern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the places where I go most often is Universal, a traditional restaurant in Porto where the food is great and served in large doses. Despite being a small and simply decorated restaurant, it always has plenty of meat and fish options, so it pleases everyone (except vegetarians). I could recommend some specific dishes, but I honestly haven’t eaten anything that wasn’t great there yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Mr. Ant\u00f3nio, the owner, is one of the most professional and hospitable people I know. The food is served quickly, orders are efficiently served and, if you become a regular customer, Mr. Ant\u00f3nio remembers your preferences (for example, he never puts salt in my mother’s food). It is a very special restaurant. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
