Someone even suggested it was there to catch fish during tsunamis \ud83d\ude1b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What the true explanation lacks in fantasy, it does compensate in poetry. In fact, this sculpture was designed and built by an American artist, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.echelman.com\/\">Janet Echelman<\/a>, in 2005. It is a tribute to Matosinhos, the land of the fishermen, located just 8 km North of Porto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Janet Echelman sculpture in Matosinhos<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-full wp-image-24142\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/she-changes-sculpture-matosinhos.jpg\" alt=\"she changes sculpture matosinhos\" class=\"wp-image-24142\"\/><figcaption>\u00a9 Nuno Cruz<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Held by three metal posts, Janet Echelman sculpture in Matosinhos consists of a giant net with a diameter of 42 meters, swings in the wind, mimicking the movements of anemones. It is, therefore, a sculpture under constant mutation; and for that reason it was given the name <em>She moves<\/em>. Nonetheless, we dearly nicknamed it <em>An\u00e9mona<\/em>, the Portuguese word for anemone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, <em>An\u00e9mona<\/em> has struggled a bit over the last decade. Around 2007 it started degrading very quickly due to the maritime weather conditions. The town hall and Janet Echelman came to an agreement that the artist would pay for the net replacement, as it was supposed to be in good shape during the first 5 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More recently the night lighting system, placed strategically on the garden under the fishing net epicentre, was vandalized and destroyed, causing 20.000\u20ac worth of damages. The mayor has appealed to the population to provide any information that could lead to the arrest of whoever has done such a thing.
