I&#8217;ll use this map to explain it to you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone wp-image-14191 size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/douro-valley-map-main-cities-regua-pinhao.png\" alt=\"douro valley map\" class=\"wp-image-14191\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u00a9 Douro Profundo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Douro valley is divided in 3 subregions: Baixo Corgo, Cima Corgo and Douro Superior, moving from the West (the Atlantic coast) to the East (Spain).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The main cities to stay in the first subregion, Baixo Corgo, are <strong>R\u00e9gua<\/strong> and <strong>Lamego<\/strong>. <strong>R\u00e9gua<\/strong> is not a beautiful city, but <strong>it has great restaurants<\/strong> and<strong>easy access from the highway<\/strong>, and it is just 1h30 driving distance from Porto. <strong>Lamego is adorable<\/strong>, with its cute little cathedral and its sanctuary on the top of the hill, <strong>but not as central as R\u00e9gua<\/strong>.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The main city in Cima Corgo is <strong>Pinh\u00e3o<\/strong>, a <strong>tiny village with <em>nothing to see<\/em><\/strong> except for the train station. The advantage of staying in Pinh\u00e3o is that <strong>you will be close to several wineries<\/strong> such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.getyourguide.com\/pinhao-l89870\/pinhao-quinta-do-bomfim-visit-and-tasting-t402159\/?partner_id=H93B56T&amp;cmp=douro-valley-hotels\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">Quinta do Bomfim<\/a>. Moreover, the <strong>Douro river cruises departure from Pinh\u00e3o<\/strong>. These are very good panoramic rides that are great for relaxing and taking photographs. The old buildings was renovated by the French architect Pierre Yovanovitch, and I just love the decor, in light wood and white tones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has a loving swimming pool, overlooking the Douro valley, where you can sip wine at the end of the day. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.booking.com\/hotel\/pt\/quinta-da-corte.en.html?aid=1186505&amp;no_rooms=1&amp;group_adults=2&amp;label=douro-valley-hotels\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">Quinta da C\u00f4rte<\/a> also has a restaurant with delicious food that changes daily (how rare is this?), and the cherry on top is that the meals can all be taken in a few outdoor areas, with tables overlooking the region. Furthermore, it has an infinity pool, private parking and even a traditional iron stove for colder days.
