We could not have asked for a better guide than Tommy who was enthusiastic, passionate and very knowledgeable about the beautiful Douro Valley and its wines. On the journey from Porto we had a very in depth explanation of the history of the region and about the wine making processes, which was expanded on at the boutique winery we visited. A delicious Portuguese lunch followed before our river cruise, allowing us to further appreciate the beauty of the valley. A visit to see the beautiful tiles at Pinhão railway station concluded our tour. Tommy was a very attentive host, personable and happy to answer any questions however “off piste”! Highly recommend this tour with Portoalities who were excellent from the start, responding very quickly to emails and offering suggestions.
We did the full day Douro Valley tour with a river trip and what a wonderful day! Tommy is an excellent, knowledgeable guide who combines wit and wisdom perfectly. The river tour is in a lovely wooden boat, followed by lunch in a nearby restaurant which was authentic and delicious. We then visited a lovely family of winemakers who enthusiastically told us about their wines and their story. This was a private non-commercial tour, and the wines we tasted were wonderful. We will be bringing our families to do this tour again!
Taking a Douro Valley wine tour with Sara was one of the best decisions we took in Portugal. She took us on a boat ride in Douro river – it proved to be the right decision as it was a very warm day – and then she showed us a tiny producer with some amazing red wines. We had a private tour at the winery which felt very special. Sara also picked a local restaurant where we had some delicious grilled meat and tuna. We work with local restaurants that are able to accommodate both vegetarian and vegan diets. Even though Douro Valley is a region with a strong tradition of meat-based dishes, our local partners are incredibly kind and accommodating, and they always have a vegetarian / vegan option on the menu. Please inform us of any dietary restrictions you may have when booking the tour, and we will make sure to make the necessary arrangements.
This tour includes pick-up and drop-off at your hotel, transportation to and from Douro Valley, a private wine tasting at one carefully selected boutique winery owned by a lovely and talented Portuguese family, an expert driver-guide specialized in Portuguese wines, a one hour river cruise in a traditional rabelo boat (group activity) and all taxes and insurances required by the Portuguese law.
Lunch is not included, as we believe it’s best for our guests to choose their own dining options. Additionally, gratuities for the driver-guide are optional but appreciated.
