Do not hesitate to use Portoalities if you are thinking of a wine tour in Douro Valley. Sara is knowledgeable, friendly and went out of her way to create a unique experience for our group. The vineyards were carefully chosen to suit our needs: small, beautiful, and with a variety of wines that we really enjoyed.
From historians to engineers and musicians, our eclectic team has one thing in common: our knowledge and passion for Porto and Douro Valley. Come and meet us!
This adventure started with Sara, a proud Industrial Engineer from Porto. When she is not writing on the blog or managing sales, you will find her studying military history (for real), hiking in Gerês or endlessly discussing where to have the best francesinha.
A former musician, Tommy realized that his friendly demeanor and passion for wines meant that he was born to be a wine tour guide. As an added bonus, Tommy’s dad has worked with many prominent winemakers in the Douro Valley for more than 30 years and… well, you know what they say: the grape never falls far from the vine!
Rodrigo graduated in International Relations, but, besides Porto, his greatest interest has always been History. A fan of reading (and writing) fantasy stories, he now has an excuse to add all of these passions up and talk about Porto as if it came out of one of the books he loves so much.
Clara is a musician but her love for Porto plays her favourite notes. She is the one responsible for all things customer support at Portoalities, so she's the one making sure our company stays in key!
Over the years we have welcomed hundreds of people in Portugal – read what they have written about our tours!
We spent two days in Duoro, exploring small boutique wineries and port houses. Our guide, Tommy, was awesome - funny, knowledgeable and incredibly thoughtful about each aspect of our trip. We had requested a customized itinerary and Tommy & Sara really delivered - each place we visited was unique and provided a special experience we couldn’t have done on our own. Sara responded to my emails quickly and put together an amazing two days through the valley for us. Definitely don't think twice about reaching out to her and letting her know what kind of experience you want. She will make it exceptional!
If you want to feel like an insider in Porto, go on a tour with Sara. As well as being a tour filled with historical and cultural insights, Sara is happy to share her favorite secret spots - historical, cultural, gastronomical. In advance, we asked Sara to take us on a tour of HER favorite neighborhoods, so we could get a sense of the 'real' Porto. She gave us a shortlist to choose from before we headed off, to be sure it was tailored to our interests, and it was! - including a fascinating secret garden, ruins in a Metro station, and the most delicious local lunch. Others are too secret and special to share online (!) not something you hear too often.
I was having a difficult time finding a company that offered what I wanted, so I was so happy to find Portoalities, which was able to structure our tour to exactly what I was looking for. We were able to taste from a small producer, who made great ports and were a joy to speak with, and a medium producer with great wines and a beautiful property. Additionally they provided transportation to and from our location, making it very convenient. Sara was a wonderful tour coordinator and I loved the fact that the tour focused on Portuguese owned wineries. It was a great experience and would definitely recommend.
