Our Jewish heritage tour in Porto is a balance between learning the Jewish history of the city, while discovering the most important monuments of the city.
You will discover the secret medieval streets of Porto: this is where the city was founded, and where the first Jewish neighborhood of Porto existed!
You will learn about the foundation of the contemporary Jewish community of Porto, but also about the role that the Portuguese Inquisition played in dismantling the medieval Jewish quarters of Porto.
We will also go on a quest to find the last medieval synagogue of Porto, on the last Jewish quarters of the city.
If you are Jewish or simply into medieval history – this tour is for you!

I highly, highly recommend going on the Portoalities Jewish Tour. It's extremely informative, and we learned a lot about the storied history of Porto's Jewish community (and the Jewish community in Portugal more broadly). Pedro is a wonderful, thoughtful guide – we couldn't have asked for better. Highly recommended!
Sara was our guide on this wonderful tour. Her knowledge of Jewish and Portuguese history and culture are extensive and her enthusiasm made our learning experience very enjoyable. All of our questions were answered immediately, very often backed up with visual aids which he carried with her. This tour not only enriched our knowledge of Jewish Porto but also served as the basis for our exploring the city for the rest of the week. In short - very highly recommended.
One of the high points of our journey through Iberia was Sara’s Jewish heritage tour of Porto. This is no impersonal, prefab excursion of the sort spoken through a megaphone. Sara draws on her own deep study of Jewish and general Portuguese history and engages her clients in genuine conversation, weaving their questions and interests into her presentation. The tour brought Porto's little-known Jewish past (and present) to life for us and was filled with astute observations about the relation of religion and politics in Portuguese history. The three hours passed quickly and ended with a taste of a kosher wine, which Sara brought to share with us. Don’t miss this tour. You’ll remember it long after.
