Welcome! I’m Sara Riobom, an experienced wine tour guide in Porto & the Douro valley.
Below you’ll find the most-loved activities and places to stay in the Douro valley — carefully selected and tested by me (no fluff, just the good stuff!).

Section 1: How to get from Porto to the Douro valley
- Fun option: Join a group tour in the Douro valley.
Pros: you will meet like minded travellers, and that is always super fun 🙂
Cons: to be completely honest: you won’t be drinking good wines – you get what you paid for! - Independent option: rent a car on AutoEurope.
Pros: you will have total flexibility to do whatever you want during the day.
Cons: it requires a skilled driver to navigate the narrow, windy roads of the douro valley. Moreover, you really shouldn’t drink and drive!
- Premium option: book our private wine tour in the Douro valley or our River cruise and private wine tour.
Pros: you will be with the best guides of the region (I am serious, my team is truly exceptionally knowledgeable) and you will taste fantastic wines at boutique wineries.
Cons: the price, obviously.
- Cheapest option: the train.
Pros: it is an enjoyable trip.
Cons: you will be dependent on train schedules and, more importantly, you won’t have flexibility to visit the best wineries in the region.
- River cruises: Porto to Peso da Régua and Porto to Pinhão.
Pros: perfect for those that LOVE river cruises. Fantastic views along the way.
Cons: you’ll be stuck in a boat the entire day!
Section 2: Best river cruises in the Douro valley
- Cheapest option: The cheapest river cruises in the the Douro valley take place in a traditional rabelo boat (group activity). You should book the 2h Douro river cruise (25€) or the 1h Douro river cruise (12,50€) and they sell out SUPER FAST.
- Best deal: The Douro river Solar Boat Tour with Wine tasting is truly a great deal because it only costs 16,50€ / person and it includes not only the river cruise on a solar powered small boat with Wi-fi but also 2 glasses of wine. It’ has the capacity to 10 people. It’s awesome!
- Private river cruises: There are also private Yacht river cruises in the Douro valley, that are reasonably priced. They can last from 1h to 4h (depending on what you choose) and they have the capacity to 14 people.
- Full day river cruise: Douro river Cruise from Porto to Régua with Lunch included. It is a 6h river cruise connecting Porto from Régua, with lunch on board.
