Welcome! I’m Sara Riobom, an experienced wine tour guide in Porto & the Douro valley.
Below you’ll find the most-loved activities and places to stay in the Douro valley — carefully selected and tested by me (no fluff, just the good stuff!).

Section 1: How to get from Porto to the Douro valley

  • Fun option: Join a group tour in the Douro valley.
Pros: you will meet like minded travellers, and that is always super fun 🙂
Cons: to be completely honest: you won’t be drinking good wines – you get what you paid for!

  • Independent option: rent a car on AutoEurope.
Pros: you will have total flexibility to do whatever you want during the day.
Cons: it requires a skilled driver to navigate the narrow, windy roads of the douro valley. Moreover, you really shouldn’t drink and drive!

  • Cheapest option: the train.
Pros: it is an enjoyable trip.
Cons: you will be dependent on train schedules and, more importantly, you won’t have flexibility to visit the best wineries in the region.

Section 2: Best river cruises in the Douro valley

  • Best deal: The Douro river Solar Boat Tour with Wine tasting is truly a great deal because it only costs 16,50€ / person and it includes not only the river cruise on a solar powered small boat with Wi-fi but also 2 glasses of wine. It’ has the capacity to 10 people. It’s awesome!

🏨 Section 3: Where to Stay in the Douro valley

Due to the windy, narrow roads of the region, you should try to stay as close as possible to either Peso da Régua or to Pinhão, the main towns of the Douro valley.

🔹 Accommodation near Peso da Régua

🔹 Accommodation near Pinhão
