After writing a guide to the best fine dining restaurants in my city, I felt that it was still missing a guide to the best Michelin star restaurants in Porto. So, to be clear: I am not talking about the restaurants that appear on the Michelin guides about Portugal, but about the handful list of restaurants that were awarded with Michelin stars.
Some quick notes about the best Michelin star restaurants in Porto:
- There are only two restaurants with 2 Michelin stars in Porto: The Yeatman and Casa de Chá da Boa Nova. There are other five restaurants with 1 Michelin star: Le Monument, Euskalduna Studio, Antiqvvm, Pedro Lemos and Vila Foz. On this article, I wrote about all of them.
- Most of the best Michelin star restaurants in Porto only open for dinner AND are closed on both Mondays and Sundays. So make sure to plan your trip around this information to avoid disappointments!
And before I talk about the best Michelin star restaurants in Porto:
- If you are a real foodie, why not join a food & wine tour in Porto? It is indeed the best way to get to know the local cuisine, to discover places you would never find on your own and to meet like minded travellers.
- Another interesting option is to join a Pastel de Nata cooking class, where you will learn how to cook the famous pastel de nata sweet pastry with a local that will share with you her family recipe (I know this for a fact, because I am friends with the person that organises this activity 🙂
Enough talking. These are the…
Best Michelin star restaurants in Porto:
Le Monument
Le Monument is one of the best restaurants with a Michelin star in Porto and it is located at one of the best five star hotels in the city, Maison Albar Hotels – Le Monumental Palace. Located at the heart of Porto, the Avenida dos Aliados (Allies’ avenue), Le Monument is a fascinating restaurant because each dish highlights a different region of Portugal.
There is, for example, oysters from Aveiro (a city just 60 km south of Porto), São João, a dish with sardines, tomato and fermented fish broth that speaks to the most iconic night of Porto, and a salad dedicated to Matosinhos, the former fishermen city just north of Porto. Indeed, the menu is a celebration of Portugal that you shouldn’t miss!

Its chef, Arnaldo Azevedo, is a young and irreverent chef that created not one, not two but THREE awarded menus at his restaurant: a “regular” one, focused in fish and seafood; a second one, 100% vegetarian (and that my boyfriend LOVED); and a very special one, for couples.
At the bar counter and right in front of the kitchen, Chef Arnaldo will cook just for you, and tell you the stories of the dishes he will serve you, paired with the best wines in the house.

Pedro Lemos Restaurant
In the neighborhood of Foz, you’ll find Pedro Lemos Restaurante, one of the most charming Michelin star restaurants in Porto. Fun fact: the building where this Michelin star restaurant in Porto is located used to be an English-style pub during the 60s. And now, it’s one of the most recognized restaurants in town since its opening in 2009, as it was one of the first restaurants in Porto to earn a Michelin star, in 2014.
The two-story restaurant has a classic ambient, with a lovely terrace that you can enjoy when the weather is good. It’s also a good place for families as the staff is very friendly and accepting of kids, something that is rare in fine dining restaurants.
Not to mention, chef Pedro Lemos restaurant is well-known for its desserts so make sure you save up space 🙂

Euskalduna Studio
One of the best fine dining restaurants in Porto is located near São Lázaro garden, in the famous Bonfim neighborhood (yes, the one that the British newspaper The Guardian considered one of the coolest neighborhoods in Europe).
A large counter stands in the middle of Euskalduna Studio with the goal of gathering people around it to share the joy of food. But don’t get scared away, there are separate tables if you’re not into this sharing concept.
Euskalduna studio mostly uses seasonal Portuguese products, that the team gets through the contact with small producers from all over the country. This Michelin star restaurant in Porto pays homage to Portuguese gastronomy, through a personalized and intimate service, and by bringing people together in the same space.

Casa de Chá da Boa Nova
Facing the Atlantic Ocean, you can dine in a national monument and one of the best Michelin star restaurants in Porto for lunch and for dinner.
The building is designed by the award-winning architect Álvaro Siza Vieira, so it is truly a privilege to dine at Casa de Chá da Boa Nova, and surely a moment to remember. Moreover, it was recently considered one of the best Michelin star restaurants in Porto.
Casa de Chá da Boa Nova distinguishes itself from the other restaurants on this list not only because it lies on the most stunning architecture masterpiece but also because its menu focuses entirely on fish and seafood, most coming from the Portuguese coast (with a few exceptions, like cod). Casa de Chá da Boa Nova is a good choice for anyone who adores food, architecture and wants to enjoy an unforgettable view of the ocean.
You can order à la carte – there are two menus available, a seafood one and a vegetarian one – or choose one of their fixed menus (they have not one, not two, but SIX menus available!). It is also one of the very few Michelin star restaurants in Porto that is open during lunch time, which is great!

The Yeatman Gastronomic restaurant
I already had dinner three times at The Yeatman hotel and it was always a marvelous experience.
The space itself is wonderful: a 19th century dining room, with a magnificent view overlooking the Douro river, makes it the perfect setting for a romantic occasion.
The food, carefully thought by the chef Ricardo Costa, is a remarkably faithful representation of traditional Portuguese flavors presented in a modern way. So good that The Yeatman was listed not only as one of the best Michelin star restaurants in Porto, but also as the first one to receive TWO stars, in 2017.
Expert tip: At the end of your meal ask them to serve you dessert at the Dick’s bar, which is literally next room, but much more private.
Prices
Fixed seasonal tasting menu for 250€ / person.
You can add one of these drinks supplements to complement your experience:
The Prime Selection (wine pairing) – 250€
The Yeatman Selection (wine pairing) – 125€
The Non-alcoholic Selection – 90€
