I already wrote about the most romantic things to do in Porto and the most romantic restaurants. I even wrote a guide to the best places to propose in Porto. It was only missing a list of the most romantic hotels in the city – here it is!
A couple of important remarks:
- I tried to be as eclectic as possible, so I include both luxurious hotels and cozy guest houses.
- You may have noticed that I already did a list of the best boutique hotels in Porto. That list is great and many of those hotels are romantic as well, but this list is different and it does not overlap with that one.
- Make sure to read my comprehensive guide about the best neighborhoods to stay in Porto, as it will give you an idea of the best area of the city for your particular travelling style.
With no further delay, let me introduce you to the best romantic hotels in Porto!
Romantic hotels in Porto: luxury options
Armazém Luxury Housing
This is my absolute favourite romantic hotel in Porto as it is GORGEOUS. It is not many hotels that are able to breakthrough the granite stones of Porto’s traditional houses by opening wide windows with amazing views of the city. The furniture, in neutral tones and using a lot of wood, add the final touch that make this a breathtaking hotel.
To add to the romance level, each bedroom comes with a standalone bathtub.
Armazém Luxury Housing is located in Largo de São Domingos, a strategic location between Cais da Ribeira and the city centre.
Canto de Luz
From the moment you arrive at Canto de Luz, it’s like stepping into a beautifully restored luxury Maison. The charm of this elegant merchant townhouse, combined with a modern atrium, creates a unique and inviting atmosphere. The staff went above and beyond to make my stay special. I’ll never forget the surprise birthday celebration they arranged for my boyfriend, complete with a beautifully decorated room and a delicious homemade cake. It was soooo cute :’)
Moreover, Canto de Luz has an exceptional breakfast, which features freshly sourced local ingredients, and that you can enjoy in the garden.
Village Aparthotel By BOA
Village Aparthotel By BOA is a standout in Porto’s hotel scene. The apartments are designed with a Scandinavian aesthetic that is both minimalist and functional, making you feel as if you are traveling in the pages of a Danish decor magazine 🙂
The use of neutral colors and natural materials creates a calming atmosphere that is soooo hard to find elsewhere. But what really sets it apart is the sun terrace. It’s a peaceful outdoor space, right in the heart of the city, where you can relax and soak up the Porto sun. Whether you’re starting your day with a cup of coffee or winding down in the evening, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy the outdoors.
Saboaria
When stepping into Saboaria you are immediately struck by its unique blend of history and modernity. The hotel, set in a noble residence that once housed an Offenbach soap factory in the XIX century, has been beautifully restored. How cool is that, to sleep in a former factory?! 🙂
The room are a delightful surprise – spacious (which is not common at all in downtown Porto), well-designed, and artistically decorated.
Moreover, after a day of exploring Porto, you can simply unwind in the wet sauna, take a dip in the pool, or relax in the jacuzzi. It is, indeed, one of the best romantic hotels in Porto.
CASA CAMÉLIA
I recently discovered CASA CAMÉLIA, a bed and breakfast located in the heart of Porto. Honestly, the photos don’t do it justice!
The picturesque gardens offer breathtaking views of the city and the Douro river. The garden is also home to Camellia trees, which add to the beauty of the surroundings. There is a greenhouse in the middle of the garden, which is where you get to enjoy one of the best breakfast in towns.
The rooms are exquisitely decorated with a unique style that blends modern and traditional elements.
CASA CAMÉLIA is within walking distance of many restaurants and cafes, making it easy for couples to enjoy the local cuisine.
Casa da Companhia
Casa da Companhia is a standout in the city’s boutique hotel scene. Housed in a building with a rich history (once belonging to a Port wine company), it effortlessly blends the past with the present. The rooms are a marvel – spacious and adorned with mirrors and large windows that overlook internal patios, bathing the space in natural light while ensuring privacy. The historical charm of the place is palpable, yet it doesn’t compromise on modern comforts. And let’s not forget the dining – the food is fantastic, adding to the overall appeal of the hotel. All in all, Casa da Companhia provides a memorable stay, making it a must-visit on your next trip to Porto.
Torel 1884 Suites & Apartments
The Torel’s group, originally from Lisbon, really changed the game when it comes from premium hospitality offer in Porto. They own not some of the best luxury hotels in the country but also this amazing guest house that is one of the most romantic hotels in Porto.
And romance, indeed, perspires from the walls of Torel 1884 Suites & Apartments. From its sophisticated décor to the standalone bathtubs, to the discretion of the staff and the monumentality of its staircase, nothing here was chosen randomly.
The location is great, right next to São Bento train station.
Gran Cruz House
Gran Cruz House belongs to a Port wine producer, and it is a magical place that includes not only one of the best romantic hotels in Porto, but also a restaurant and a bar.
It is quite small – only seven bedrooms – which adds up to the feeling of intimacy that you have when you enter this hotel. Each room is uniquely decorated, so it is worth to take the time to pick the right one.
Since this romantic hotel in Porto is located in the historical neighborhood of Ribeira, some of the bedrooms have a view towards the Douro river and others have a view of the city centre. I highly recommend you to take the first option – you can choose it when booking the Gran Cruz House 😉
Vila Foz Porto
If you are celebrating a special occasion with your significant other (perhaps a wedding anniversary?) then I recommend you to stay at Vila Foz Porto. This renovates manor house by the riverside is one of the most sophisticated and romantic hotels in Porto.
For instance, they serve champagne and oysters for breakfast – can you imagine a more indulgent morning feast?
Moreover, the spa cannot be used by kids under 16 years old, because the idea of this hotel is to allow you to have a romantic getaway in Porto by the beach side with complete privacy.
Vila Foz Porto is not in the city centre but rather in Foz neighborhood, which is perfect for you to enjoy morning walks by the beach.
Romantic hotels in Porto: mid-range options
The White Box Boutique House
I don’t know why it took me such a long time to discover The White Box Boutique House because it is totally the kind of place I like to stay when traveling with my boyfriend.
The bedrooms are decorated in a sober yet trendy style and many of them are located at the attic, so you have those lovely windows on the ceiling, overlooking the bed (that might be common where you come from, but it is quite a novelty in Portugal).
Another thing that I love about The The White Box Boutique House is its intimate breakfast / living room, where you can meet other couples if you wish to do so.
Jardim da Batalha Boutique Hotel
The main reason why I consider Jardim da Batalha one of the most romantic hotels in Porto is that each room, generally decorated in blue and white tons, has a wrap around balcony. I love arriving at my hotel and having a private place to relax that is not the bedroom itself, don’t you?
Another amazing thing about Jardim da Batalha is that it provides an excellent breakfast that includes fresh orange juice, homemade cakes and scrambled eggs individually made.
The location of this hotel in Porto is excellent, between my favourite sushi restaurant in the city and my favourite craft beer pub.
Na Travessa Suites
Na Travessa Suites has a peaceful atmosphere, which is surprising given its location in the heart of Porto’s historic center. From the garden, you can see the cathedral, while the rear rooms have open views of the Clérigos tower and some of the front rooms have open views of the São Bento station.
Na Travessa Suites‘s architecture is fantastic, with a modern, minimalist vibe that I personally love 🙂 The rooms are well-designed and feature modern amenities such as air conditioning, cable flat-screen TV, and free Wi-Fi.
I highly recommend this hotel for couples. The hotel’s quiet and peaceful atmosphere, stunning views of the city, and modern amenities make it a perfect choice for couples looking for a romantic stay in Porto.
Menina Colina Guesthouse
Yet another hidden gem in Porto, Menina Colina Guesthouse is a great example of a former manor house that was renovated without loosing its charm. In fact, the owners not only renovated the bedrooms but also left the grandiose staircase intact, as well as a proper ball room. It is simply stunning.
The location of this romantic hotel in Porto is quite interesting, just far enough away from the centre to be quieter, but you can still walk everywhere with no trouble.
Casa da Marechal Boutique Hotel (Adults Only)
Casa da Marechal Boutique Hotel is one of the most romantic hotels in Porto, and with a prime location, too. It’s situated just a few meters from the sea and the traditional beaches of Foz, providing a serene environment that is perfect for couples looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.
Casa da Marechal Boutique Hotel‘s spa and wellness center is incredible. The relaxation area with sauna and gym is lovely, and the hotel offers a spa experience with its sauna and hammam.
Finally, the hotel’s breakfast is exceptional and provides a great start to the day. The hotel offers a daily breakfast with continental, vegetarian, or gluten-free options. The breakfast is served in a cozy and intimate setting that is perfect for couples.
Casa de Sá Noronha
When writing this list of the most romantic hotels in Porto I tried to be as eclectic as possible, because different people have completely different ideas of what romance is and feels like.
Casa de Sá Noronha is an exemple of a guest house that stands out due to its use of a colourful décor and many second hand (or second purpose, should I say?) décor elements.
It is located right at the heart of the nightlife district so I would recommend it to younger couples.
Casa das Laranjas
I fell in love with Casa das Laranjas when I first saw its enormous living room that invites for proper conversations between guest during breakfast. Indeed, an open kitchen and a beautiful lounge area with fresh flowers give this guesthouse an unusual and homely feeling.
This is also one of the most romantic hotels in Porto when it comes to location, as it stay in a quaint little neighborhood where everyone knows everyone. You will be right in front of some of the best beaches in Porto, and a step away from a charming tram ride.
Duas Portas
Duas Portas is one of the few romantic hotels in Porto located in Foz neighborhood, the area where the Douro river gently meets the Atlantic Ocean. It is a quiet neighborhood suitable for ocean lovers and for those looking for some quiet days, as it is away from the buzzling city centre.
What I love about Duas Portas is its minimalistic style, which combines a few key items with the whiteness as of the walls. As a minimalist myself, I feel that the mind is at ease at a space less crowded with useless objects.
You can have breakfast indoors or at the patio but given the location of Duas Portas, I would suggest you to go to Tavi, one of the best pastry shops in Porto.
