I love the Christmas markets in Porto: I go there to see happy faces, friends gathering together, the charming Christmas lightnings…
And Porto, with its mild temperatures and airy squares, is asking for you to go shopping on the small markets, instead of going to shopping malls where all the shops look exactly the same.
So I made this list of the best Christmas markets in Porto, I hope you enjoy it!
No time to read a long article? Here’s a summary
- There are TONS of Christmas markets in Porto and they mostly take place on the weekends of December.

This is THE BEST Christmas event in Porto in 2025

I cannot thing of a better activity to do in Porto around Christmas other than to be dazzled by a multimedia show at our beloved Clérigos church – in my opinion, the most beautiful church in the city.
I won’t tell you more about what you’ll see (so as not to spoil the surprise!), so I’ll just tell you that the effect of the lights projected on the oval walls of the Clérigos Church, the music and the colors create a beautiful and unforgettable effect.
This show is only available until the 8th of January and has very limited seats, so I recommend you to get your tickets online. To make sure you don’t miss out on this great experience! And if the weather is nice, it is worth it to get the ticket to Climb the Clérigos tower. as the view from the top is stunning 🙂
Local tip: get there earlier in order to to sit in the back seats, from where you have a better panoramic view of the church 😉
What you should know about Christmas markets in Porto

We don’t have one centralised Christmas market but rather many, small Christmas markets in Porto, spread all over the city, where you can find traditional Christmas decoration stuff, but also traditional Portuguese food products, urban design and much more.
Moreover, we don’t have snow, nor glue wine. But that is a good thing, because glue wine s**ks. There, I said it 😛
On the other hand, we have a very welcoming weather. More importantly, our City Hall organises 5 weeks Christmas programme with plenty of activities such as choirs, street animation, concerts and workshops.
You can read my Complete guide to Christmas in Porto, as it congregates the best events.
And, as usual, if you want to make the most of the holidays season in Porto, make sure to book one of our private tours – we are already sold out for a lot of the dates around Christmas!
Given this introduction, let me introduce you to…
…the best Christmas markets in Porto 2025!🙂
Christmas market in Serralves Foundation

I have written countless times about the Serralves Foundation, a fantastic contemporary museum surround by romantic gardens. And this Christmas, Serralves gardens will open its doors to one of the best Christmas markets in Porto, congregating artisans and brands from all over the country.
From December 6th to the 8th, you can buy gourmet products, organic and seasonal foods, creative and sustainable Christmas gifts. There will also be a Christmas bazaar, temporarily set up at the museum, running for the entire month of December.
The entrance to the Christmas market will be free, but if I were you I would also take the opportunity to visit the gardens as well as the contemporary museum, because they are sensational.
Address: Rua Dom João de Castro, 210
Schedule:
- December 7th and 8th: from 10h to 19h
- December 6th: from 10h to 22h
Christmas Market at Jardim da Cordoaria

This year, one of the best Christmas markets in Porto will take place at the lovely Jardim da Cordoaria from November 30th to December 23rd 2025. It will be beautifully decorated with 14 Christmas trees painted by talented urban artists, transforming the garden into an authentic winter wonderland! 🎄
At this Christmas market, you can buy a variety of regional products, including handicrafts, jewelry, handmade toys, clothing, and food products.
Additionally, there will be a Santa’s House open on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays from 16h to 18h, a charming Parisian carousel, and a natural ice rink (located right next to Jardim da Cordoaria, at Largo do Amor de Perdição).
There will also be musical and theatrical performances taking place around the market. Save the dates and make sure to enjoy the festive atmosphere 😊

Urban Market Porto – Christmas Edition

The Urban Market Porto is probably my favourite market in terms of the stuff you can actually buy. It’s not the most Christmas-y, it’s not a place where you will find neither traditional products nor a lot of great food options, but it’s the one with the most unique, modern and edgy artisans.
There will be vendors of jewellery, illustration, painting, fashion and wellness products. There will also be food options, with with Christmas baskets to feed the whole family.
In 2025 there will be not one, but two Christmas editions. So write down the details:
- November 26th – December 10th: at Praça das Cardosas, from 10h to 19h.
- November 29th – December 5th: at the iconic Bolhão market, from 9h30 to 20h.
Mercado da Alegria

The Christmas Market at Praça da Batalha, with 23 exhibitors and a Santa Claus house right in the centre, is one of the oldest and most traditional Christmas markets in Porto 🙂
There will be, as always, cozy wooden houses showing off all sorts of local goodies like jewelry, clothes, toys, crafts, nativity scenes, and yummy regional sweets 🙂 It’s a great market to take your children to.
Address: Praça da Batalha
Schedule: November 28th to December 28th 2025
- Sundays to Thursdays: 10h to 20h
- Fridays and Saturdays: 10h to 21h
Artes & Ofícios do Porto – Christmas Market

The Christmas Market Artes & Ofícios do Porto will take place from November 28th to December 24th on Avenida D. Afonso Henriques, right next to São Bento train station and Porto’s cathedral.
This event, which brings together dozens of artisansplaced in picturesque wooden houses, stands out for its strong focus on national handicrafts: ceramics, wood, leather, cork, cutlery, textiles, toys, nativity scenes and traditional delicacies, and much more! 🙂
Now the really good thing about this market is that it is the ONLY Christmas market in Porto that will be open on Christmas’ Eve (December 24th, until 15h30), so it is perfect to do some late Christmas gifts’ shopping.
Address: Avenida D. Afonso Henriques
Schedule: November 28th to December 24th 2025, from 11h to 20h. On Christmas’ Eve (December 24th) it closes at 15h30 and on Christmas Day (December 25th) it is closed.
Charity Christmas Fair – Escola de Moda do Porto

The Escola de Moda do Porto (Porto Fashion School) launches a special Christmas market focused on sustainability and social impact. In the weeks before the event, the school collects reused clothing from its community until 28 November; these pieces are then curated and made available to the public during the fair, which runs from December 8th to 12th.
Instead of paying for the items, visitors are invited to donate non-perishable food or essential goods, which are later delivered to families in need.
It’s a small but meaningful initiative that combines circular fashion with Christmas solidarity.
Address: Escola de Moda do Porto
Schedule: December 8th to 12th.
Christmas markets in Porto’s suburbs
There are several Christmas markets in Porto district that, even though they are not located in Downtown Porto, they are still very nice and easily accessible using public transportation. These are my favourite ones:
Christmas market at the WOW (World of Wine)

The World of Wine (WoW) is the newest venture of the Fladgate Partnership, the owner of some of the best Port wine lodges. It basically consists of five museums and some (pricey) restaurants with a fantastic view of the Ribeira neighborhood. It is also home to the best wine museum in Portugal.
From November 22nd to January 6th, WOW promises to be a must-see during this festive season!
To kick off this special time of year, they will illuminate their fantastic 13-meter Christmas tree in the WOW Central Square on November 22nd. The celebration includes various activities such as musical concerts, a delightful Christmas carousel, visits with Santa Claus and even trampolines 🙂
As for the Christmas market per se, it will take place on the weekends starting on November 22rd, and from December 13th every single day until Christmas day. There will also be a food market, the Santa’s House, a Kids Zone, and even a Parisian carousel that will delight the children. It’s a wonderful, wonderful place for families.
Address: Rua do Choupelo 39, in Vila Nova de Gaia
Schedule: on the weekends of November 22nd and 23rd, November 29th and 30th, December 6th and 7th and then every single day from December 13th to the 23rd. The opening hours are from 12h to 20h.
Matosinhos’ Christmas market

The traditional craft fair in Matosinhos (FaMa), a nearby city where you can find incredible seafood restaurants, will become a Christmas market in 2025. There will be around 81 artisans from all around the country, who will sell Portuguese cheeses and sausages, chocolates, design products, books, clothing and jewelry, among other things to wear, to decorate the house and to eat.
The market can be visited every day, with free entry, at Jardim Basílio Teles, in front of the City Hall of Matosinhos.
Additionally, I recommend you to attend the Christmas Concert with the Ensemble Vocal Pro Musica (a choir with over 100 years of history) at the Bom Jesus Church in Matosinhos, focusing on Christmas and sacred music from the 17th to the 21st centuries, starting at 21h30. It is just a 10-minute walk from the Christmas Market and it is really worth it 🙂
Address: Jardim Basílio Teles, in Matosinhos
Schedule: November 28th to December 23rd 2025
- Sundays to Thursdays: 11h to 19h30
- Fridays, Saturdays and public holidays: 12h to 23h
Archi Market at Casa da Arquitetura

From November 29th to December 1st, 2025, several brands will be present at ArchiMarket – Christmas Market at Casa da Arquitectura, one of the few contemporary architecture museums in the Porto district, in Matosinhos.
This Christmas market will bring together leading Portuguese creators in the areas of design, architecture, art, furniture, ceramics, jewelry and graphic arts, in a selection that reflects the quality of national creative production.
Address: Casa da Arquitetura, in Matosinhos
Schedule: November 29th to December 1st, 2025, between 10h and 20h.
Maia’s Christmas Market

Another Christmas market, located just a 35-minute metro ride from Porto, is in the city of Maia.
This city will burst into Christmas cheer on 28th November at 18h30, when the lights switch on at Praça Doutor José Vieira de Carvalho. Expect a glowing Christmas tree perfect for photos, a bustling market packed with seasonal treats, an ice ring, and classic rides like the carousel and Ferris wheel adding pure holiday charm.
The excitement climbs even higher on 7th December at 17h30, when Santa rolls into town in a joyful parade before settling into his cosy house to greet families.
And the fun doesn’t stop there — until 4th January the city keeps the magic alive with Christmas concerts, a full-on Magic Festival, hands-on workshops, theatre shows and plenty of surprises that make Maia one of the most spirited holiday spots around.
Address: Praça Doutor José Vieira de Carvalho
